Multibeam Supports BREEAM Target For M&S Superwarehouse
Kingspan Structural Products has supplied 96,000 metres of its purlin and rail system, Multibeam, for a massive distribution centre being built at the 90 acre ProLogis Park Bradford.
More than 3,000 tonnes of steel will form the framework for a 1 million square foot logistics hub for the leading fashion, food and home products retailer, Marks & Spencer.
The facility is being built on the site of the former West Bowling Golf Club, in a 50/50 joint venture between Marks & Spencer and developer, ProLogis. The two companies have set their sights on an Excellent rating under BREEAM, as Fergie Taylor, First Vice President at ProLogis said.

Multibeam can certainly contribute to the success of this aim, thanks to a range of management systems at Kingspan Structural Products, which won the company a Gold Standard award under the Steel Construction Sustainability Charter (SCSC) in 2008.
Multibeam’s engineering minimises steel content whilst ensuring maximum performance. Kingspan also encourages and aids its suppliers to return steel for recycling. Even the product packing has been considered: Multibeam is packed using low carbon mild steel, recyclable banding, biodegradable paper labels, and ethically sourced softwood bearers.
Barrett Steel Buildings are due to complete the framework in autumn 2009 and the distribution centre should be operational in 2010. In addition to warehousing and office space, the new development will house training rooms, onsite catering and staff facilities.
